Rescuing the Future: A Naomi Kinder Novel (also available for Kindle) picks up where Godspeed Inc. leaves off and includes a dangerous, uncertain journey by Naomi with Leo and Bonnie more than 200 years in the future to save a future Earth from a nanobot infestation. Godspeed Inc. is a novelette, but Rescuing the Future is a full-length novel of over 111, 000 words with a much larger cast of characters, including the elite female warriors of the future, the UN Medusan Marines.

    Solo pilot engages in a mission to save the world. She is attacked by a man who was sent to stop her yet becomes her lover. They join forces to thwart her employer. The sexual subplot seemed obligatory but the main story was well thought out.

    It's always good to find character-focused hard science fiction-- and this novella meets the criteria. Naomi is the pilot of a patrol ship whose sole mission is to use a particle gun to mend holes in the space-time fabric. Unfortunately, she is a corporate pilot, working for a gigantic (and evil) mega-corporation whose FTL ships tear rifts in said fabric every time there FTL drive comes on line, a fact that the corporation has neglected to share with the UN or the public. Bad enough-- and perfectly believable, by the standards of some current multinationals-- but now it appears that the latest FTL launch has torn space-time in the location of a large black hole, putting our solar system at risk... and Naomi is the only person in a location to do anything about it. And the UN would rather kill her than let her try.

    Fun short story. As good as many other sci-fi books I've read without the 200 extra pages of meaningless details, not there's anything wrong with that.
